Part 3: The Blessed Life

Big Idea:

Walking in the fear of the Lord leads to a greater blessing in life. But remember: God’s blessings are not always measured in dollars and cents. His blessings go far deeper than that! As 2 Chronicles 16:9 reminds us, God is actively looking for people to bless. He isn’t stingy; He is waiting for us to align our hearts with Him.

This week, we are diving deeper into four specific areas that illustrate God’s deep desire to bless those who have a healthy, reverent fear of Him.

Day 1: The Promise of His Goodness

Read: Psalm 34:8, Psalm 31:19, and Psalm 145

Reflect: When we think of "blessing," our minds often drift to material wealth or physical comfort. But God’s goodness is stored up specifically for those who fear Him. Think about the massive inventory of spiritual blessings God pours into our lives: hope, love, peace, joy, and holy confidence. Psalm 145 is a giant list of how God showers us with these gifts. He is a good God, and He cannot help but pour out His goodness on those who honor Him.

Journal/Discussion Questions:

  • Take a quick inventory of your day yesterday. What are three specific expressions of God’s goodness (not related to money) that you experienced?

  • Am I walking in an active awareness of His goodness, or am I taking it for granted?

Day 2: Protection and Provision

Read: Psalm 34:7, Proverbs 22:4, and 2 Corinthians 9:8

Reflect: Scripture gives us a beautiful mental image in Psalm 34:7—the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him. You are guarded. Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 9:8 reminds us that God is able to make all grace abound so that you have what you need.

However, we have to check our motives here. If we only show up for the protection and the paycheck, our "fear of God" isn't healthy—it’s transactional. We cannot have a "what have you done for me lately?" mindset with the Creator of the universe. God knows our hearts.

Journal/Discussion Questions:

  • In what areas of your life are you currently struggling to trust God’s provision or protection?

  • How can you shift your mindset from "What can I get from God?" to "How can I honor God?" today?

Day 3: Upholding the Righteous

Read: Isaiah 41:10

Reflect: Building on yesterday's theme of protection, God promises to help, uphold, and defend us with His righteous and competent hand. When the world feels unstable, the person who fears the Lord finds a rock-solid foundation. We don't have to panic, because the One who holds the stars is the One holding us up.

Journal/Discussion Questions:

  • What is causing you anxiety or fear right now?

  • Picture yourself being held by God's competent hand. How does visualizing Isaiah 41:10 change your perspective on that anxiety?

Day 4: God Takes Notice of You

Read: Psalm 33:18, Psalm 34:15, and Proverbs 11:20

Reflect: David famously prayed that God would keep him as the "apple of His eye." David knew that the safest, most blessed place to be was directly in God’s line of sight.

There is a stark contrast between two types of people: those who love being in God's sight, and those who try to see what they can "get away with" in the dark. For the believer who fears the Lord, the gaze of God isn't terrifying; it is comforting. His eye is on you because He loves you and delights in you.

Journal/Discussion Questions:

  • Do you view God’s watchful eye as a comforting presence or a restrictive traffic cop? Why?

  • What is one area of your life you've been tempted to "hide" from God? Bring it into His light today.

Day 5: The Gift of Divine Intimacy

Read: Psalm 25:14, Genesis 18:17, Proverbs 3:32, and John 14:21

Reflect: Perhaps the greatest blessing of fearing the Lord is intimacy. Psalm 25:14 says, "The secrets of the Lord are for those who fear Him." Think about Genesis, where God chooses not to hide His plans from His servant Abraham, or Jesus’ promise in John 14 that He will disclose Himself to those who love and obey Him.

Just like Adam and Eve walked with God in the cool of the day before sin entered the picture, God wants to be known and understood by you. He reserves His deepest intimacy for the upright.

Journal/Discussion Questions:

  • What does it mean to you that the Creator of the universe wants to share His "secrets" and intimacy with you?

  • Spend 5 minutes in silence today. Don't ask for things; simply ask the Lord to disclose more of His character to your heart.
