LHF This Week: Aug. 9-16, 2026


August is here, and as Pastor Derek mentioned this past Sunday, we are right in the middle of the "Dog Days of Summer." The Kentucky heat is in full swing, and we hope you are finding creative ways to stay cool and refreshed during these warm days. Whether it’s a cold drink on the porch or a splash in the pool, taking care of yourself is important. As always, we invite you to check out our week in review and take a look at what’s coming up at LHF. There’s plenty to keep you connected and engaged as summer continues.



Sunday Recap


This week’s worship service was a wonderful time of coming together as God’s family. There is something truly special about gathering to praise, worship, and encourage one another. Pastor Derek continued our summer series in the book of Psalms, focusing on Psalm 1 and the question, What Does It Mean to Be Godly?


Psalm 1 opens with a clear contrast between two paths. One path leads to peace, joy, and life, while the other leads to ruin and death. This theme echoes Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, where he spoke about the broad and narrow paths. Pastor Derek encouraged us to consider three important things as we reflect on this Psalm:


  • The direction of our lives: Are we walking the path that leads to life and blessing?

  • What captures our attention: What are we focusing on daily? Is it things that build us up or tear us down?

  • Who is shaping us: Are we allowing God’s word to develop us in the right way?


Thankfully, God’s word offers clear guidance and nourishment for our souls. It points us toward the right path and helps us grow in godliness. This message is especially relevant as we face daily challenges and decisions. Taking time to reflect on where we are headed and who is influencing us can change the course of our lives.


This Week’s Events


We have several events this week designed to bring our community together and deepen our faith. Here’s what’s happening:


  • Senior Lunch

Tuesday, August 11, 11:30 a.m. at Bob Evans in Brannon

All seniors and even non-seniors are welcome to join for good food and fellowship. It’s a relaxed setting to enjoy conversation and build friendships.


  • Women’s Bible Study

Tuesday, August 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Church

This study offers a chance for women to dive deeper into Scripture, share insights, and support one another in faith.


  • Men’s Bible Study

Friday, August 14, 7:00 a.m. at Panera in Brannon

Early risers can join this group for a time of study and prayer before starting the day.


These gatherings are great ways to stay connected, learn more about God’s word, and encourage each other through community.


Grace Drive Block Party Outreach August 22nd


One of the highlights coming up is our Grace Drive Block Party. This event is part of our ongoing effort to love our neighbors well. We want to create a welcoming space where the community can come together, have fun, and feel the warmth of our church family.


The block party will be a time for us to


  • Get to know our neighbors and offer them hospitality.

  • Have our kids play together on games and inflatables.

  • Make connections with our neighbors and show the love of Christ.


We are looking for volunteers to help with grilling, managing the inflatables, and hosting. If you want to be part of this outreach, please reach out to the church office or sign up after Sunday service. This is a wonderful chance to build relationships and show our neighbors that they are valued and loved.


Women's Banquet August 30th


Another great event coming up is our Women's Banquet. It's going to be a great time for the women of LHF to gather for an evening of fine dining and "high class" entertainment provided by the LHF Men's Ministry. So, block off Sunday Evening, August 30th from 5:30pm-7:00pm and make plans to be there for an evening you won't want to miss.

Staying Cool and Connected This Summer


The heat of August can make it tempting to stay indoors and keep to ourselves. But summer also offers unique opportunities to connect with others and grow spiritually. Whether it’s through worship, Bible study, fellowship meals, or community events like the block party, there are many ways to stay engaged.


Here are some tips to stay cool and connected:


  • Plan outdoor activities early or late in the day to avoid the hottest hours.

  • Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade or indoors.

  • Invite a friend or neighbor to join you at church events or community gatherings.

  • Use this time to reflect on your spiritual path, just as we did with Psalm 1, and consider what changes might help you grow.
