Welcome, church family!
We've just completed our first full week of August, which means that the new school year is right around the corner for the kids. This is always an exciting time of year! In this issue of LHF This Week, we've got a Sunday service wrap-up, a look at what's coming up this week, and our prayer list. So, take a minute to scroll through so you can be in the know!
Sunday Service Wrap-Up
We had a wonderful spirit of worship Sunday as we gathered for our weekly service. Our worship team led us faithfully, as they always do. We are so grateful for the many musicians and singers at LHF who give their time and talents to praise the Lord and edify His church.
Pastor Derek took us through Luke 18, asking the question, "Who is The Kingdom of God For?" For the past several chapters, Jesus has been making his way to Jerusalem and instilling in his disciples the values and philosophy of the Kingdom of God, which is much different from what we see in the kingdoms of the world today. In chapter 18, we saw five encounters with people who wanted to draw near to the Lord to ask something of Him. It was the desperate, the humble, the dependent, and the broken who Jesus rewarded, for they had faith and were empty of self-righteousness or self-reliance. If you missed the message, you can find it on our Facebook Page, website, podcast, or YouTube Channel.
Youth Notes
Our youth band stayed after church yesterday for rehearsal and are sounding better and better with each practice! We are excited for this new thing that’s happening—training new musicians and singers! Our youth also have some gatherings coming up soon in August and September.
New Outreach Team Met Sunday
We are excited about the new outreach team that has come together to pray for and discuss ways LHF can be involved in local outreach and evangelism in our community. Yesterday the team met to discuss possible ministry opportunities to engage with our immediate neighbors on Grace Drive, as well as ways we can serve our immediate community. Please pray for this team for wisdom as they continue to work together. If you'd like to know more about this or want to be a part of it, please reach out to Pastor Chris or Pastor Derek.
Senior Lunch This Tuesday
Hey Seniors, don't forget that this month's Senior Lunch will take place Tuesday instead of Monday. We will meet this Tuesday, August 12, at 10:30 a.m. to carpool to Shelbyville to eat lunch at Claudia Sanders Restaurant. If you have any questions, please reach out to Susan Adkins.
Women's Bible Study This Week
Our Women's Bible Study is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. We are currently studying Francis Chan's book, "Crazy Love." It has been a great time together, and this meeting looks to be just as good. The meeting will take place at the church in the front foyer classroom. If you have any questions, reach out to Rita Bugg, our Bible study leader.
Men's Bible Study This Friday
Our men will begin studying a brand-new book this Friday. Join us at Panera in Brannon Crossing at 7 a.m. as we begin working our way through the book of Acts. Acts is the only book of history in the New Testament, outlining the formation and rise of the church in its early days. It is sure to be an insightful study.
This Week's Prayer List
Kim Coffey and family: Please continue to pray for Kim and the rest of the family in the wake of her mother's passing. Her funeral was Saturday. Thanks to all who have offered condolences, cards, and support.
Mike Whisman Family: Mike passed away last weekend after a 3-year battle with cancer. The family is still making funeral arrangements. We will update you as soon as we know.
Alan Hinkle: Cancer. Alan has spent quite a bit of time in the hospital lately.
Kids' New School Year: Let's remember to pray for our kids and teachers as they are about to begin a new school year.
Pray for Grace Drive: Let's also join together to pray for our neighbors around the church, that they will know they are loved by Jesus and that they are loved by LHF!
Thank you for being such a wonderful and engaged church family. Your commitment to each other and to the Lord is truly a blessing. We hope you have a great week and look forward to seeing you soon!
