Welcome
August has arrived, which means we've entered the waning days of summer, with a new school year just around the corner. In this edition of LHF This Week, we have lots of updates on events and news for the next couple of weeks.
Sunday Recap
After several weeks of intense heat, it was nice to see a bit of a cool down this past weekend. This past Sunday, we had a wonderful worship service as well as a Bible study hour before the service. Our worship team led us faithfully as we praised the Lord for His goodness together, and Rob Coffey sang a beautiful special reminding us that all our strength comes from Christ.
Pastor Derek concluded the message, "Kingdom Matters" from Luke 17, looking at four core values or ethics of the Kingdom of God. Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God is both present now and still yet to come, which is one of the great mysteries of Scripture. We saw that, while the "shadow kingdom" of this world values temporary things, the Kingdom of God is built on more substantive and spiritually significant things like forgiveness, faithfulness, service, gratitude, and an eternal perspective. If you weren't able to be at church Sunday, you can find the message on our website, on podcast, or on YouTube. The full service, including worship, is available on our Facebook page.
Lots Going On This Week
It's the first week of August, which means a big week is in store.
Our Boys 2 Men and Girls 2 Women groups will gather this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the church. This will be the first meeting after a two-month summer break. Guys, if you plan to attend, reach out to Don Flynn at (859) 983-6721. Ladies, let Tandy Flynn know if you can make it at (859) 983-6723. We hope to see you there!
On Thursday, everyone is invited to participate in our UP (Unceasing Prayer) ministry. On the first Thursday of each month, we take the opportunity as a fellowship to pray for 24 hours for our city, the churches in our area, and our families. If you'd like to be part of this ministry, click here to see the prayer schedule. You don't have to sign up to participate, but if you'd like to see what shifts are not taken, you can view the calendar at the event page.
Our Men's Bible Study will meet Friday at 7 a.m. at Panera in Brannon Crossing. We hope you can make it.
Prayer Requests
This week, remember the Linda Behr Family. Linda's funeral is Monday morning. Also, pray for the family of Mike Whisman. Mike went home to be with the Lord Friday. His family is making arrangements Monday. We will notify everyone via group message when we know more. Also, keep Allen Hinkle in prayer as he is in the hospital, as well as Archie Falin, who was having some heart issues this past Sunday. We also continue to lift up the Gill Family in the passing of their father in Pennsylvania.
Seniors Lunch On A Different Day
Seniors, take note that this month's Senior Lunch will take place on TUESDAY, Aug. 12, rather than on the typical Monday. We will be going to Claudia Sanders Restaurant in Shelbyville, which is closed on Mondays. We will meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. to caravan together. If you have any questions, contact (859) 338-3754.
That's All For This Week
We hope you have a great week and look forward to seeing you again soon. God bless.
