LHF This Week: August 30 - September 6, 2026

September is almost here, and that means school is back in session, college campuses are filling up again, and all of us are starting to turn our attention toward fall. Schedules are changing, routines are settling in, and there’s a fresh season ahead for families, students, and the church.
We’re coming off a great weekend of worship and fellowship at LHF. From Sunday morning worship to a wonderful evening celebrating the ladies of our church, there was a lot to thank the Lord for. Check out this issue of LHT This Week for a quick recap, a look at what’s ahead, and a few ways we can be praying together.
Sunday worship wrapped up our summer in the Psalms
On Sunday morning, we gathered to worship together as Pastor Derek finished our summer series, “Summer in the Psalms.” It’s been a rich season of turning our hearts back to these songs, prayers, cries, and praises from Scripture.
This week, we looked at Psalm 19, a beautiful reminder of the goodness and power of God’s Word. The psalm helps us see how God reveals Himself through creation and through Scripture. The heavens declare His glory, and His Word revives the soul.
Pastor Derek encouraged us to turn to the Word of God at all times, not only when things feel easy or calm. That’s a word many of us need as we move out of August and into the busyness of September.
In the “Dog Days of the Soul,” when we feel worn out, restless, dry, or heavy, immersing ourselves in Scripture brings relief. God’s Word refreshes, corrects, steadies, and restores. It reminds us who God is, what He has promised, and where our hope is found.
When our souls feel tired, Scripture doesn’t just give us information. It points us back to the God who renews us.
What a gift to close out the summer with that reminder.
The Women’s Banquet was a joyful night together
Sunday night was an incredible time of food, fun, and fellowship as the men of LHF hosted the ladies for a special evening of fine dining and entertainment.
It was one of those nights that reminds us how sweet church family can be. There was good food, plenty of laughter, thoughtful serving, and a joyful spirit throughout the evening. Everyone had a great time, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to celebrate and encourage the women of LHF.
A big thank-you goes to all the men who came together to pull off the event. From planning and setup to serving and cleanup, it took a team effort, and it showed. We’re thankful for every person who gave time and energy to make the evening special.
Most of all, we pray the women of LHF left encouraged, appreciated, and reminded that they are loved by their church family.
This week at LHF
There are several things happening this week, and we’d love for you to jump in where you can.
Boys 2 Men meets Wednesday evening
Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Boys 2 Men will meet at the church. This is always a valuable time of encouragement, growth, and connection. Make plans to be there and bring a friend if you know someone who would benefit from coming along.
UP is this Thursday with 24 hours of prayer
Thursday, all day
This month’s UP day of prayer is focused on 24 Hours of Prayer. We’ll be praying throughout the day for the Christian witness in our city. That’s a big and important prayer. We want to see believers throughout our community live faithfully, speak clearly, love well, and reflect Christ in homes, schools, workplaces, neighborhoods, and public spaces.
Take time Thursday to pray for gospel witness right where God has placed us.
Men’s Bible Study meets Friday morning
Friday at 7:00 a.m.
Men’s Bible Study will meet at Panera in Brannon Crossing. It’s an early start, but it’s a great way to end the workweek with Scripture, conversation, and encouragement. If you haven’t been in a while, this would be a good week to come back. If you’ve never been, you’re welcome to join in.
A new Women’s Bible Study begins September 8
After finishing up the book of Ruth, the ladies of LHF will begin a new study on September 8.
The next study is called “The Biblical Recipe for Peace & Sound Mental Health.” This will be a meaningful and timely study as the group turns attention to what Scripture teaches about peace, the mind, and walking faithfully with the Lord in the middle of real-life pressures.
All ladies are welcome. Whether you’ve been part of the previous study or you’re thinking about joining for the first time, this is a great opportunity to jump in.
Seniors will head to Blue Licks on September 8
Also on September 8, our seniors will pack up and hit the road for a lunch trip to Blue Licks State Park.
This should be a wonderful day together, filled with good food, conversation, and time away with friends. If you’re part of the seniors group, make plans to join the trip and enjoy a delicious meal at Blue Licks.
These outings are always a sweet way to connect, laugh, and enjoy the blessing of church family outside the normal weekly rhythm.
This week’s prayer list
Let’s continue to pray for one another this week. Some are recovering, some are walking through ongoing health needs, and some are adjusting to new seasons. Take a few minutes to lift up these names before the Lord.
Chris Shepherd Recovering from surgery
Archie Falin Continued health needs
Janet Munch Getting settled in at her new place
Koos Basson Recovery from surgery
Brittany Rayan’s dad Health needs
Susie Eads Medical treatments
Prayer is one of the simplest and most faithful ways we care for each other. Even when we don’t know every detail, the Lord does. Let’s ask Him to bring healing, comfort, strength, and peace to each person on this list.
Looking ahead with thankful hearts
As we head into September, there’s a lot to be grateful for and a lot to look forward to. We’ve worshiped together, shared meals together, laughed together, prayed together, and watched the Lord continue to care for His people.
This fall will bring full calendars, new routines, and plenty of opportunities to grow in faith and serve one another. Let’s keep turning to the Word, showing up for each other, and trusting the Lord for the season ahead. We’re thankful for what He’s done, and we’re excited for what’s next at LHF.
