LHF This Week: June 7-14, 2026

Happy first week of June! The official arrival of June marks the beginning of a beautiful summer season here in Central Kentucky. The kids are finally out of school, the local pools are officially open, lakes are filling up with boats, and there is that unmistakable, light smell of sunscreen in the air. Things are heating up around LHF as well! In this week’s issue, we have a great recap of this past weekend's adventures and worship, as well as a look ahead at what is coming up in the life of our church.

Youth Hung Out—Literally!

On Saturday, our Youth group loaded into the church bus and pointed it toward Cave City for the LHFy Day of Adventure. The group tackled zip lining, ropes courses, and tower jumping. Everyone had an incredible time chasing just about every thrill possible while securely attached to a rope! It was a fantastic day of fellowship, courage, and a whole lot of laughter.

Sunday Worship Recap: The Source of Real Rest

This past Sunday, Pastor Derek looked at a topic that Scripture speaks about frequently, yet one that completely eludes our modern culture: rest.

He built off the very real, ironic truth that while modern society technically has far more free time than generations past, we report significantly higher levels of exhaustion, anxiety, tension, stress, and restlessness. Looking at what the Bible actually says about the matter, we discovered that true rest isn't found in a specific place, a perfect vacation schedule, or a self-care formula.

Rest is actually a person—Jesus Christ. He is our rest.

Using Psalm 23, Pastor Derek presented the Lord as our Great Shepherd who provides rest to His sheep—sheep who, whether they realize it or not, are desperate for the care and nurture of the Shepherd for every single facet of their existence.

Key Truths from the Message:

  • We are created for communion with God. Our souls were literally designed to be in relationship with Him.

  • We default toward cheap substitutes. When we get tired, we tend to chase things that cannot actually satisfy us.

  • Substitutes can never restore us. A substitute cannot restore you because it didn't create you in the first place.

  • Jesus alone restores. As our Great Shepherd, He is the only one who can truly restore our souls.

  • Rest is not inactivity. True rest is found directly in the living presence of Jesus.

Looking further at Matthew 11:28-30 and Hebrews 4:9-11, we see that the Lord lovingly calls us to a place of continual rest in Him, regardless of what season we may currently be walking through—whether it is busy, stressful, chaotic, or peaceful.

  • Our Witness in the Community: Pray for our local outreach efforts, including the Food Box ministry, that it would impact lives for Christ.

  • Our Kids This Summer: Pray for the safety, health, and total provision for all local children now that school is officially out.

As we step into the warmth and busy rhythms of these summer days, we encourage everyone to have a truly great week living and resting directly in the presence of Jesus. Remember, your rest isn't dependent on your calendar clearing up—it's found in Him right now! We are looking forward to all of our mid-week gatherings, and we can't wait to gather for worship again next Sunday. We are especially excited to welcome back Pastor Chris, who will be jumping into the pulpit to begin preaching for the next several weeks. Have a blessed week, LHF family!
