Welcome to a brand new edition of LHF This Week! We are now firmly planted in the back half of May and quickly heading toward Memorial Day weekend — which means
one of the biggest Sundays of the year around Living Hope is almost here: Blessing Sunday! We’ll talk more about that in just a minute. Around the community, students are definitely feeling the anticipation of summer break… though thanks to the snow days piled up this winter, they have to hang on just a little bit longer before freedom officially arrives! As we move toward another exciting and busy week together, take a look through this issue to stay up to date on everything happening around LHF.
SUNDAY RECAP
There was a great spirit this past Sunday as we gathered together for worship. Our band and worship team led us faithfully as we declared the goodness of God together in song.
Pastor Derek continued our series through the book of Ruth, looking at Boaz and Ruth’s declaration of love in chapter 3. It was certainly a unique wedding proposal, but the applications we glean from this passage help ground us in the gospel truth that Jesus Christ loves us with a love that cannot be matched. It is a pure love and a sustaining love. It is a love which we must come to willingly.
After walking through the narrative, we were reminded of several simple but powerful truths about the gospel and our relationship with Christ:
When you come to Jesus, everything changes
When you come to Jesus, you must come willfully
When you come to Jesus, He will receive you
When you come to Jesus, He replaces fear with reassurance
When you come to Jesus, He keeps His promises
Boaz’s love for Ruth beautifully points us toward the way Christ loves us. We now look ahead to chapter 4 and the thrilling conclusion of this wonderful series.
